DEA Praises Arrest of “R1”

The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration congratulated Mexico’s Security and Citizen Protection Ministry and Army Special Forces for the arrest of Ramón Ángel “N,” also known as “R1,” who has been identified by authorities as the alleged mastermind behind the killing of former Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo.

DEA Administrator Terry Cole acknowledged the operation through a message posted on the social media platform X, where he highlighted the work carried out by Mexican federal security forces.

“Congratulations on the successful operation and arrest of R1 by @SSPCMexico and the Mexican Army Special Forces @Defensamx1,” Cole wrote in the public message.

According to the information released, the detention was conducted during an operation involving personnel from the Security and Citizen Protection Ministry and specialized units of the Mexican Army.

Authorities have linked Ramón Ángel “N” to the planning of the attack against Carlos Manzo, although his legal responsibility must be determined by the courts as the investigation and criminal proceedings move forward.

The DEA’s statement represents public recognition of the operation conducted by Mexican institutions and of the coordination between the agencies involved in the arrest.

The capture is considered part of the actions aimed at weakening criminal groups associated with violence in Uruapan and other areas of Michoacán.

Mexican authorities are expected to continue gathering evidence and presenting the case before judicial officials to determine the charges and legal status of the detainee.
